Having faith in a higher belief can be a light of the end of the tunnel, a hope for a person who has been struggling in their life. Being able to trust that you are guided through this life can take a lot of weight off one’s shoulder.
It can help them overcome difficult situations in life. The existence of spirit guides is a major part of spirituality. It has often been written about in my favorite books too!
Who are spirit guides?
Simply put, spirit guides are souls that have the task to lead and guide younger souls through their times on earth. Michael Newton explained it like this: Younger souls need more guidance when leading a life as a human because they have less experience.
Therefore, a soul will be assigned a spirit guide. When souls come back to the spirit world after they die, their spirit guides will show them around and explain further ‘procedures’ to them.
However, they will also interact with them when they’re not in direct contact. Usually the spirit guide stays home while the soul is traveling to earth.
Does everyone have a spirit guide?
Yes, everyone does. Also, spirit guides have guides. Because depending on the level of development souls have different tasks and assignments.
Some are healers, others are creators and so on and for every level it takes someone who’s above them to instruct them at some point.
These different levels of development are marked by colors the souls radiate. The youngest are white, a little older souls will turn a little yellow, then green, blue and finally purple.
How to they appear to us?
As said above, usually spirit guides assist us from the spirit world. So, they lead us mainly through our intuition or subtle but direct sighs.
In some cases though, when destiny intends it like this or if this is the best situation for the both of them, spirit guides will take on the bodies of human that will be close to the specific soul throughout their life. In this case, they have a special mission or because of past experiences need extra help in this life.
I remember that I read a story in ‘Journey of Souls’ where one client found out that her son is actually her spirit guide – a much older and wiser soul – who has the special mission to be close to her in this life to be able to help and assist her at all times – as I said, this might be because of past karma or something similar.
What signs do they use?
Since spirit guides cannot communicate with us directly, they use different subtle and unapparent ways and means to do so instead.
- Gut feeling: The first is your intuition. If something feels very wrong, it means you shouldn’t do it. And the other way round as well.
- Dreams: Whenever you remember your dreams, there’s usually a deeper meaning behind it. Especially, if you dream the same thing over and over again.
- Angel numbers: If you keep seeing angel numbers (e.g. 11:11, 333, 1414, etc.), probably they mean something, especially when you see them often.
- Feathers: Seeing a feather lying around usually means you’re on the right way.
- Miscellaneous: This could be a certain song or a smell or an animal that could have a particular meaning to you. If you keep seeing things that you associate with something important or something from your past (and they keep showing up in a short amount of time), it’s possible that your spirit guides want to communicate with you.
How do they communicate with us?
Important is also to know that you can reach out to them when you feel like you need assistance or guidance in a time that is difficult or uncertain for you. Whenever you’re really unsure of something or perhaps you’d like to know if you’re on the right path right now, you can ask them for a sign.
For example, you can say (to yourself, mentally or out loud), that if you’re supposed to go for this decision, please send a sign (it can be anything; a green car, a lion, a feather, 1111, a red hat, etc.) in the next 24 hours. If you do see the sign, you’re on the right path.
Personally, I would ask for positive rather than negative things. So, instead of asking ‘Is this the wrong decision?’ ask whether you’re heading in the right direction, whether you should do something instead of shouldn’t.
How can you actively connect with them?
It would be wrong to assume that they couldn’t here or see you just because right now you’re not aware of them. They always have access to you, meaning they can’t miss a situation where they should have warned you or something similar.
It will take time to feel connected to them, but of course, it’s possible. That’s why they’re your spirit guides. A little ritual you can do – besides prayer of course, which always helps to connect to higher powers – is to ask them in the morning to assist you throughout the day and watch over you.
I would suggest meditating first because then we can tap deeper into our higher and subconscious self. It will then be easier to be in touch with anything ‘celestial’.
‘Dear spirit guides, today, please guide me through my day and assist me with difficult decisions’ is something you could say.
