What the hell is Karma?
I’m sure you’ve heard this term before. In my opinion, not many people though know the true meaning of what Karma really is. I have briefly written about the meaning of Karma in my introduction text. But it’s quite complicated to explain the core meaning of Karma and even more so to understand it fully.
You see, it’s not something you can see, touch or measure. It’s something that you experience – but it’s not a feeling either. You can’t really know it’s there, you can’t calculate it but still it’s important to know about it.
Basically, Karma is something that you accumulate throughout your lifetime(s) based on your actions. Think of it a consequence of your actions. You do something good, you get good karma. You do something bad, you get bad karma. And at the end of your life, you have a pile of Karma laying besides you. And you don’t know what to do with it. So essentially, you carry it with you into your next life.
There, you get another chance to get rid of it. The concept is this: Your good karma determines good actions, something that will happen in your favor. But the bad karma makes sure, those bad things you did will happen to you too. But it doesn’t have to be in this life!
And that’s the crux! You don’t know anything about your past lives and what you did there – usually. So, you can’t know whether good or bad things are going to happen to you because you have no clue whether or not you were a good or bad person.
The Great Law
Be a thief and you’ll be robbed. Break a heart and your heart will be broken. Love someone and you will be loved. But remember; the consequences aren’t immediate. And they don’t have to be this obvious either. The reason you don’t want to steal is because you don’t want to be robbed in your next life, speaking as an example. The same goes for love too though! If you love a lot now, chances are high that you will receive a lot of love. And essentially, these are the things we want to work on! To love, being kind, understanding, friendly, generous, warm, affectionate and the list goes on.
The Law of Creation
If you want something to change, you need to work for it. This applies to your health, – you need to eat healthy and move your body in order not to get sick – your successes, – you won’t ever make a lot of money if you just stay home and watch TV – and you can’t expect to have a great dating life if you never talk to people or leave your house. And if you want to become a more spiritual person, you need to educate yourself on the topic, otherwise the knowledge won’t come to you.
The Law of Humility
In order to want to make your life better you need to first understand where your weaknesses are. Character development is a potential example. Making yourself a better person will benefit you and other people. But in order to be able to do that you have to acknowledge that you can be manipulative, envious, mean, selfish or judgmental, you know where I’m going here. And that can be difficult at times.
The Law of Growth
Let’s say you did recognize your bad patterns and you are committed to changing them and eventually becoming a better person. Can you imagine how your life will improve, how your relationships will improve, how your self-esteem will improve? Same thing happens when you start being more active; you will become healthier – and happier too! In the end it’s just a question of how patient you can be.
The Law of Responsibility
If we want to achieve a certain lifestyle, we’ll have to build the habits and stick to them in order to slowly create it. When wanting to become a spiritual person, you can’t lean back and hope to become wise and all-knowing. No, you’ll have to go out there, read the books, talk to people, make experiences, reflect. And only then can you think about leveling up.
The Law of Connection
The past and the future don’t actually exist. They are either a memory or a fantasy in your mind. However, some of our actions from the past do influence our future. It’s possible that a specific person immensely influenced you and changed your beliefs for good. You are a combination of all the people that you know, all the books you read, all the places you’ve been to and all the experiences you’ve made. And at the same time, you are creating your future by doing all those same things that over time alter your mind and perception of life. They influence you and make you act a different way you maybe would have acted, had you not come into contact with those things or people.
The Law of Focus
The mind is very strong and powerful. It creates all we do and determines how we feel in all situations. You can train your mind. You can shift your focus by thinking of something that makes you happy and all doubts will disappear. You can choose to feel happy if you take the power away from negativity that influences you every day by not letting it affect you. We have the ability to do this! We just need to practice really hard!
The Law of giving Hospitality
Thinking or saying something is one thing. However, acting according to what we preach is something entirely different. Our words are meaningless if we don’t mean them. And even if we do mean what we say, our efforts are worthless if we don’t act accordingly.
The Law of Here and Now
We give so much power and potential away every day because we lose focus. Do you know what you could achieve if you got up and chased your dreams? We can get everything we want if we keep our focus on the now. Being able to be present is crucial to feeling true happiness. Being present takes all your worries away. Experiences will be more vivid and beautiful if we don’t let ourselves be distracted and be present!
Let’s conclude
I hope you can understand the concept of Karma a little better now. But please understand that learning about spirituality and all it contains is a journey. It takes practice, like everything else does too. Showing an interest in the topic and reading a text like this shows that you’re committed to learning and curious.
Karma summarized: The trick is to be the best you can be, – right now in this moment, in this lifetime – do as many good things as you can, accumulate as much good karma as you can – because the good karma will “cancel out” the bad karma – and hopefully prevent horrible things from happening to you. And such things will happen! And it will take hundreds of lifetimes to level up as a soul. But of course, you have no control on what happens to you. So, you take every experience – good or bad – and make the best out of it.
